Vaccination is the most important preventive measure against yellow fever. The vaccine is safe, affordable, and highly effective.

Key facts about the vaccine:

  • Provides effective immunity within 10 days for 80-100% of vaccinated people

  • Within 30 days for more than 99% of vaccinated individuals

  • Administered in a single dose

  • A booster is recommended every 10 years for those remaining at risk

  • Only administered at designated vaccination centers

International Certificate:

After vaccination, you receive an “International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis” (yellow card) that:

  • Becomes valid 10 days after vaccination

  • Is valid for 10 years

  • Is required as proof of vaccination for entry to certain countries

Who should get vaccinated?

  • People aged 9 months to 59 years traveling to or living in risk areas

  • Laboratory workers exposed to the virus

Special precautions:

  • Adults over 60: Consult a doctor before vaccination

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women: Avoid travel to risk areas; if essential, consult a doctor

  • Infants 6-8 months: Avoid travel to risk areas

  • People with severe allergies to vaccine components (eggs, chicken proteins, gelatin)

  • Infants under 6 months

  • People with weakened immune systems (HIV/AIDS, cancer, transplants, etc.)

  • People with thymus gland disorders

Vaccine Side Effects

Mild (up to 1 in 4 people):

  • Fever

  • Pain, redness or swelling at injection site

  • General discomfort
    (Lasts up to one week)

Severe (very rare):

  • Severe allergic reaction (1 in 55,000)

  • Serious nervous system problems (1 in 125,000)

  • Severe illness with organ failure (1 in 250,000)
